Designs have been submitted for planning for new temporary accommodation for a council in Hertfordshire, to counteract homelessness within the borough. The outline masterplan is for 43 flats within 4 residential blocks, connected together through communal terraces and gardens.

Three years on - and looking rather nice we think! This is Kings Langley, one of the four schools we designed and delivered back in 2017 as part of a seven school batch with Interserve Kajima Consortium, under the government’s Priority School Building Programme. Our photographer visited last week to take some new pictures now the landscaping has matured and the school properly settled in.

The team are busy here on site at Waterbeach in Welwyn Garden City, where RT are working with Lovells to deliver 21 individually detailed new build houses arranged around 2 cul-de-sacs, with carefully designed shared surfaces and landscaping to create a sense of place. The scheme is on behalf of Chalkdene Limited, a JV between Herts Living and Morgan Sindall Investments to deliver much needed new homes in Hertfordshire.

As part of a recent competition, we proposed a deep retrofit option in collaboration with Arup. We demonstrated a potential 50% reduction in embodied carbon by reusing the structure based on the @RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge Standards. We are keen to encourage this type of thinking in all our projects, carrying out simple Whole Life Carbon Assessments at the outset to interrogate the brief and maximise sustainability.
