Our team were in Manchester on Friday night at the Civic Trust Awards 2020, where we were thrilled to receive a Highly Commended Award for our Stockwell Hall of Fame scheme.
The scheme transforms a disused play area on a 1950s housing estate in Stockwell Park into a legal graffiti site for renowned graffiti artists, a place for local residents to gather and chat, and for kids to play. We opened up the area and improved lighting to made the space feel safe and improve access from multiple locations.
The design of a large monolithic structure acts as a canvas for larger pieces of artwork, a dividing element so that artists and children can use the space simultaneously, a basketball net and football goal, and a surface on which to project films, turning the space into an outdoor cinema. Our team worked closely alongside Network Homes, SW9 Housing, Mace Group, and the local residents, to provide a key social space for the whole community.
“The Stockwell Hall of Fame has set out what it wants to achieve and even in the early days the space seems to be being utilised and has a big social and community presence, especially in the area of graffiti.”
“I objected to all of this, I just don’t like these people spraying stuff making a mess outside my flat. It’s just not what people want. But this is amazing! I can’t believe it. It’s just so fun and the kids look like they love it. Well done!”
