Last Friday, 27th September, saw the week long Global Climate Strike drawing to a close. Some of our staff went down to the opening day of the strike the previous week, where we gathered in front of The Building Centre with fellow colleagues, practices and organisations from the industry including the UK Green Building Council, RIBA, the NLA and Architects Declare. We marched down to Parliament Square as part of an industry body in recognition of the impact that construction has on the environment.
Over the past week many conversations have been initiated in the office about how we could respond, and for the final day of the strike we took the opportunity to halt our normal operations for the afternoon and get the whole office together to consider what more we can do as a practice to make our work more sustainable. We held a workshop to look at 6 of our current projects to analyse what the opportunities and constraints are in each sector. The conversation was engaging and wide ranging, and we generated lots of ideas for projects and research going forward! Watch this space!
To coincide with this, we’ve signed up to Architects Declare to get involved in the wider conversation about transforming the industry.
