The RT team recently submitted a proposal for the Shed Project, which was to design an artists studio to form part of Hauser & Wirth's Somerset residency programme.
Our proposal creates a space that could hibernate when the studio was not in use, and become a sculpture in it's own right. This would also maximise internal space when it was in use, as it would other be restricted in height due to planning reasons. The proposal aimed to re-use existing materials where possible and was pulled away from the existing building to create a more secluded studio to the ones currently provided in neighbouring The Maltings.
This was all achieved with the use of a weighted pulley system that could see the roof move from it's closed position to it's higher, open, position.
