The Games Hub, Harrow Campus, University of Westminster
Rock Townsend has undertaken enhancements to the University of Westminster’s Harrow Library, reimagining the ground floor into a contemporary environment for the new Gaming Department and Emerging Media Space.
The "Games Hub", the new gaming department, features 30 high-performance computers on custom-designed blue tables that extend across the space, accentuated by large Barrisol lights above.
The soft curves of the tables are mirrored by the flooring and walls, creating an ambiance that is both futuristic and inviting.
The Emerging Media Space is designed for maximum flexibility to accommodate developing media equipment, such as VR headsets and projection mapping. The design features a neutral, warm palette, complemented by a sage green power track that adds a vibrant touch. Sliding partitions offer additional adaptability, allowing the space to be divided into two smaller working areas as needed.
A stainless-steel clad storage room is visible from both areas, fostering a sense of connection and enhancing the clean, modern aesthetic. This stainless steel feature wraps around a hatch, enabling staff to efficiently provide students with necessary equipment. A "Shared Space" links the two areas, comprising computer study booths, an "Inspiration Corner" for group idea development, and collaborative working tables.
Rock Townsend worked closely with university stakeholders to balance the needs of various departments, delivering an inviting, futuristic space that supports students’ interests in advancing technology.
