City of London School
City of London
Rock Townsend were commissioned by City of London School through the Scape Framework for this major refurbishment project to improve the school facilities, including works to the reception, library, general offices and support spaces.
We worked closely with the City of London, the School and the various stakeholders to understand the functional requirements and aspirations for uplifting and modernising the spaces on a short-track programme of briefing to handover in 5 months. Due to the programme pressures the team were subsequently novated to assist Kier Construction in delivery.
The main reception has been transformed to improve access and to respond to enhanced security requirements, and as such manages to balance the need to improve the safety needs without compromising the welcoming experience for boys, staff and the public.
The library has similarly been transformed by filling it with natural light, by providing a variety of new formal and informal study spaces and new seminar spaces, and has been opened up to the school with the introduction of a new full-height acoustic glazed feature wall incorporating artefacts and books of historical importance.
